How to Get to Hungary

Hungary is a country in Central Europe, bordering seven countries: Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Ukraine, and Slovakia. It is easily accessible by air, land, or water transport. There are Numerous direct flights between Budapest, Debrecen, and Sármellék near Lake Balaton in Hungary and European cities and overseas countries.

1. By Air

  • International Flights: The easiest way to reach Hungary is by flying to Budapest, the capital. Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD) is the leading international gateway.
    • Many major airlines offer direct flights to Budapest from various countries. Look for flights from your nearest international airport to BUD.
    • You can book flights through travel agencies or flight search engines (e.g., Google Flights, Skyscanner, Expedia).
  • Other Airports in Hungary: If you're not flying directly to Budapest, you can also check flights to other airports like:
  • Debrecen International Airport (DEB)
  • Szeged Airport (QZD) (smaller regional options)

2. By Train

  • If you're already in Europe, Hungary is well-connected by train. By train, you can travel from neighbouring countries like Austria, Slovakia, Serbia, Romania, or Croatia. For example, you can take a direct train from Vienna to Budapest, which takes around 2.5 hours.
  • Check schedules on RailEurope or national rail services like MÁV (Hungarian State Railways).

3. By Bus

  • There are also long-distance bus services connecting Hungary to many European countries. You can take buses from Vienna, Bratislava, Belgrade, or Zagreb. Services like FlixBus or Eurolines provide budget-friendly options.

4. By Car
